Urn design - designer urns - urn art

Questions to "cosmicball" Thomas Schär, excerpt from an interview by M. Haas, Nov. 2016

What does your work involve?
Since urne.ch was founded in 1998, I have been building up my own urn collection. I I basically design my urns like an architect plans houses and apartments. First of all I have one basic idea. Then I develop a concept, a design and a story around the object, from which gives a name. My collections have different names, such as "ball of love" for my rounds urns. So it takes quite a long time - sometimes up to two years - until the first prototype. So my work is an artistic process and consists of conception, design and implementation. After production I lend put the finishing touches on some of my urns in the studio - in the form of a print motif, an engraving or a assembly of individual components. In my work it is important to me that my creations address a wide variety of people and also reflect the nature of a deceased person. Depending on I customize the urns according to the customer's request or develop completely new concepts, which, however, takes more time and needs resources. On some selected urns from my collection, other artists have also made their mark immortalized.
